Cipriani Tagliarelle Pasta

by Sara Hafiz on February 22, 2010

Cipriani Food company was founded in Venice, Italy in 1931. Giussipe Cipriani opened the doors to Harry’s Bar along a canal just off Piazza San Marco. He then expanded his Cipriani empire to hotels & gourmet delicacies from Venice. I came to know about Cipriani pasta on my first visit to Venice in 2003. I couldn’t believe that pasta could be so thin, light & airy. Tagliarelle is an extra thin egg pasta which is made out of only 3 ingredients, Durum Wheat, Semolina & Eggs. The simplicity of this pasta meant perfection & I wanted to take the entire stock of this gorgeous pasta home to wow my family & friends. But how will I carry all of those boxes?
Well I ended up buying about 5 boxes of the Cipriani Tagliarelle Pasta. I thought that I will figure out how to make space in my luggage just before we are leaving Italy for home. But suddenly it hit me that I cannot pack the pasta in my suitcase, it will break and not keep its beautiful thin ribbon like shape. So I decided to bring it with my carry on luggage so Ican handle it with care. Would you believe I carried the pasta like a baby on the plane, I even wrapped it in a blanket for when or if there was turbulence in the plane. I know what you are thinking, “what a wacko”. I admit I was obsessed with bringing my beloved pasta home in one piece. A treasure that I had discovered in a beautiful enchanted city of Venice! I’m happy to report that my pasta did made it home safe & sound and  undamaged..Yay!!! Well there’s another twist to this Pasta story, you see I didn’t really need to go through the trouble to baby my pasta.  I found out that Dean & Deluca carried the Cipriani Tagliarell along with other fine gourmet food stores.
Yes, it was worth bringing my Cipriani Pasta Home…It was worth bringing a Delicious part of Venice Home!
